WEEK FOUR LECTURE QUESTION:
How has the site evolved from its original state to its current condition?
ANSWER:
SouthBank itself shows a dramatic change. It seems in 1946 the majority of SouthBank was used as a trading dock. It included large ship capacity for trades and as a result ended up with the surrounding architecture being much the same. Warehouses, markets and small business buildings lined the SouthBank border line.
With the modern age views leaning more and more towards a sustainable way of life. it is evident to see the reintroduction to green space and a more sustainable development.
The above image is also a 1946-2009 split image. The picture shows the chosen site directly. The one major difference is the train line. In 1946 it is evident that the train line was terminated at South Brisbane. This leads me to believe that South Brisbane was the pinnacle of development and secondly that South Brisbane was a trading hub, this is reflected on the Brisbane river boarder above.
2009 shows us a cleaner response to the site. its seems that the site was forgotten about between the two images and eventually redeveloped as a functional development through additional car parking for staff to Queensland Rails.
