QUESTION:
"What are the meaningful findings from your site analysis/context research which inform your master plan and conceptual design process?"
Meaningful Site Analysis/Context Research Findings:
In an effort to simplify on information already accessible on my blog already, I will dot point a few things that I have found particularly important/ interesting.
- While the site offers some real potential because of its surroundings (Four major Landmarks) it is also a hindrance. The four our more landmarks act by pulling people away form the site. my studies have shown that the site will always be used primarily as a transition zone. I feel my project takes advantage of this situation by creating an easier path to access these landmarks while also enhancing others.
- I found that While people are mostly traveling away form the site it is not necessarily easy in terms of mobility. The major intersection creates an awkward meeting point for pedestrian and vehicular traffic. My Master Plan also improves the situation by redirecting the traffic flow and allowing a smoother transition between cars and people.
- With the Recent development of south bank it has left South Brisbane with a disconnected feel. I no i sometimes forget that South Brisbane is South Bank not two separate regions. Because of this The North Side of South Brisbane is struggling with an identity crisis. I found that there are touches of street art around the top end of South Brisbane as you move towards West End. I wont to incorporate a mix of street art and nature to create a transitionary zone between the two suburbs.
Conceptual Design Process Findings:
- Mainly due to the reasons state above. I feel my structure needs to be something that is primarily and access and exit point, as this is the main activity on site.
- I feel that architecture is two things. One it matches its context completely and grows with the site, This approach works if the Concept of the sight is functional and successful. Secondly Architecture can also completely challenge its surroundings and set in motion a sight change and highlight potential. Given the approach to the sight and the redevelopment of its image i feel the architecture needs to be challenge and contradictory to what is around it. This is why I no i wont to go with a form that is more organic and curvaceous.
- I no that I wont people to tactually be involved in the structure inhabit it and make it, Take ownership of it. I feel my introduction of grass art walls is a n interesting activity to develop on sight and is easily monitored. I also have plans on involving art that forms the structure itself.
